I woke up on Sunday with my house shaking around me like a leaf. The next thing I know the power went out. Other then the fact that I didn’t have power until around midnight, I suffered no damage to my property or to my family. So I realize how very lucky I am as reports from the Big Island have not been nearly so good. For those who don’t know, I live on Oahu in a suburb of Honolulu and the Big Island is about 150 miles south of us. At least I think it is, please correct me if I got that wrong. :-)

Since there was a storm system moving over the island, I didn’t have much light to work with, but I did manage to work on the Hidcote Garden. I’m sorry the picture doesn’t have much detail, but like I said, the lighting wasn’t very good and I’ve been too lazy busy to take another one.
I’m really enjoying this pattern. It’s easy to follow and easy to memorize. I’ve eschewed the use of stitch markers as they usually end up being more of a nuisance since they end up having to be moved to accomadate double decreases.
Unfortunately, I have to put the Hidcote Garden away now that the power is back on and work on the Shaped Triangle again. I’m using a dark navy blue yarn for that one, which is why I didn’t work on it during the power outage. But it was great company for me while I tried to find out more about what was going on. For some reason I could only catch Maui stations for most of the day and when I finally got an Oahu station they didn’t have much news.

But through it all I was reminded that none of it really mattered, since all my loved ones were safe and sound.
P.S. Thank you for all the voicemails, emails, and comments. I appreciate all the outpouring of concern you all showed for me! Thank you so much!

Glad to hear you and yours are okay! I thought you were far from the earthquake, clearly not far enough. All your lace knitting is enticing me back to my Paisely Long Shawl, your lace work is very inspiring.

Glad you’re okay. I’m just patiently waiting for my yarn to arrive to begin work on Hidcote; it is such a pretty shawl and I love the color you’re doing yours in.

I’m really glad you’re OK after that earthquake. Having been born in San Francisco I know what it’s like. Still, you must have great fortitude because you’re knitting on Hidcote and making good progress. Take care!

hi opal! it was quite a shaky sunday, but like you having my family safe and sound was most reassuring and comforting - being power-less allowed me to catch up on some reading and think about re-stocking on batteries, canned goods, and getting a new lantern….

Lots of lace for me in the future! But other things too due to my more recent stash enhancement…
Hidcote Garden is so pretty… and so is kitty! :)

I’m glad to hear you fared well in the quake, and had a lovely shawl to knit on while you waited for power. My thoughts were with you…I love the looks of your Hidcote - what yarn are you using?
(((hugs)))

I’m so glad that you and your loved ones were all safe and had no serious damage from the earthquake.
We have actually been having a series of very small earthquakes in Bar Harbor, Maine, which is very unusual!
