With a little help from my friends.

Last night was sushi and knit night and I had so much fun. I brought along two socks projects to work on.  I mainly brought out the Dallas Cowboy sock for advice.

I’m on the gussets of the sock and the striping effect has changed dramatically. I don’t think it’s ugly, but I don’t think I like it.  So I wanted to hear what the peanut gallery thought. Mostly they didn’t think it was ugly but they  said that if it’s going to bother me I should rip back.

What do you think?

I’m probably going to rip it back and do an afterthought heel, but I do want to hear what y’all have to say.

Unfortunately it was too dark to work on the Undulating Rib Socks. So I left early.

I didn’t leave completely unscathed though. Barb aka Acornbud hoisted a huge lot of yarn upon me insisting I take it home and at least try it.

At this point, my knitting mojo felt like dried up old prune. That is until, at one in the morning, I came up with the brilliant idea of knitting up the new yarn into another Clapotis!

Now did I do the practical thing and go to sleep and work on it in the morning? Oh no. I rushed downstairs and printed out the pattern. I searched high and low for some size 8US needles. (I finally found them amidst some beads.)  I busted out my iPod and got some Breaking Benjamin cranking. Then I proceeded to knit.

I think I was more excited about being able to use my new Hello Kitty stitch markers that have been languishing in a container then about the project itself.

Then again I had forgotten what an addicting knit the Clapotis is, because I couldn’t stop knitting. I kept going until  I couldn’t keep my eyes open.

It was another late night and this time I have no one to blame but myself. All I can say is thank god it’s FRIDAY!!

Even Sammy is looking forward to it. (Or is he just looking for it?)

Also! I have donated some prizes for Claudia’s MS Ride 2009! Her prize basket is filled to the brim with good stuff. Check it out! It’s for a seriously good cause.

Have a great weekend, peoples! Thanks for reading. :)

The changing stripes doesn’t bother me but I have changed how a sock was constructed to keep single row striping. (If only hey would dry so I could take a photo of them.)

I can totally relate to the MUST START PROJECT NOW urge. I even balled a skein of yarn by hand so I could start Nessie by Hansi Singh. If only I didn’t have to rip it out twice.

I like the Hello Kitty stitch markers too and totally understand the attraction of being enamored of a project because of fun stitch markers. I also look for reasons to use them right after I get new ones. :)

I love your blue and white socks! Those Hello Kitty markers are hysterical, Opal. Next time I go to Japan you will be innundated with HK-ware, I promise.

With the heel of the Cowboy socks, I would probably finish the heel and see what it looked like all done, then decide whether or not to rip back. You could end up liking it when you see it finished. But then I don’t mind continuing to knit something I know I might frog. Good luck!

The heel doesn’t bother me, either, but like others have said if it bothers you, rip it back. I just love those socks!

The stitch markers are cute, too.

  5. Hattie Says:

Nice! I need to start my clapotis over…

I wouldn’t rip that sock back. Doesn’t it change because there are more stitches in each row? What could you do differently? I think that is the beauty of the self striping sock yarns. They have personality. I love your Hello Kitty stitch marker! As for starting a new project in the middle of the night, I can only sympathize. I do it all the time! Oh, and I think I am in love with Sammy! He is such a cutie!

    No, you’re not. Please say you’re not…?
You aren’t taking me down the Clapotis path *lalalalalalaICan’tHearYoulalalala*
    ;)
    Hope you’re feeling better today!
    (((hugs)))

I can’t yell ’cause I should be in bed right now. :D I can understand wanting the striping to stay the same. Pretty regardless. I haven’t succumbed to the clapotis…yet.

    Sleep well, Opal!!

I’d probably rip and do the afterthought heel, but I OCD about such things. My most recent socks (no pictures taken) were faux-fairisle and I did the heel flap using yarn from the outside of the ball so as not to disturb the pattern.

I think your socks would look great either way, though, and I agree that the change in the stripes adds character.

  10. Stacey (just Stacey) Says:

Eh… socks do that. It’s the nature of the heel. :D I did love making my clapotis. It was a bit addicting – the dropping of the stitches.

    Happy Weekedn

Clapotis. Looking good! I’m glad the yarn for a good home. I vote for forge ahead on the sock:)

I have that problem with striping yarn. I’ve started doing simple patterns in yarns that I think might pool, and that helps some. I haven’t done an afterthought heel, but I plan on trying it next time I get stripes that look like yours. I guess it just depends if you think it adds character, or if it just bothers you. :)

  13. JulieC Says:

Oooh, I have yarn for another Clapotis, too…. Maybe I should go look for it.

I like the new stripe pattern in the socks, but you could also try a short-row heel (no gusset) to fix the problem.

  14. Jeanne Says:

I think the change in stripes looks ok – but its what you are happy with right?

Love the stitch markers – too funny. Hope you had time for a nap!

  15. Megan S. Says:

I vote for the afterthought heel! I’ve always thought those look really nice!

  16. Cookie Says:

    Short rows.

    That is all.

Heh, I have yet to knit a Clapotis! How do you like the yarn, though? And I love the color too.

  18. Saffron Says:

The striping looks ok to me … but as others have said … if it bothers you…rip it good! :-)

  19. Carrie K Says:

Those Hello Kitty stitchmarkers are fabulous.

I love that you couldn’t wait until morning to cast on the new Clapotis. And look at how much you knit! Now go to sleep.

  20. Sarah Says:

Gotta rip if they are bothering you this much.

That is the best Hello Kitty stitch marker ever!

I know it is all bad, and we should do better for ourselves with sleep, but it is also so great when the knitting mojo grabs us and dances the night away until our eyes are burning. I just hope you do not have to pay to dearly for this.

    xo

  21. Kerry Says:

I like how it has striped. Loving the stitch markers.

I really need to get myself started on a Clapotis.

  22. Daniele Says:

I don’t mind the striping change at all. It adds “character” I think. Or, you could do a short row heel and the striping wouldn’t be off as bad as with the gusset (I could be wrong – sometimes I don’t know what I’m talking about)….

Anyway – LOVE the Hello Kitty stitch markers and the Clapotis is coming out great!

  23. Raquel Moreno Says:

Those are the cutest stitch markers.
