You might remember these mittens that I made for my friend’s son. Well, I finally cast on for the matching hat last week Thursday.

So far the knitting is going well, but working on a 16″ circular tends to wear on my hands, so I try not to knit on the hat for long periods of time. It’s hard to stop once I get going though. Seeing the skulls appear row by row is almost magical. I’m hoping I can finish it in time for Joe to wear it this season, but I’m not counting on it. I’m not exactly well known for getting to the Post Office on time.
The yarn I’m using is Knitpicks Telemark and it is crisp and lovely to work with. The 16″ circular I’m using is an Inox Express Circular and it has a nice point that does not split the yarn. The pattern for the hat is from Hello Yarn and can be found here.

I love that pattern! Your knitting is terrific. I’m always so impressed with any color knitting since I don’t do any myself. It makes me too crazy when I’ve tried but your work looks really great!

Your skulls look so real, what beautiful work! I like your row marker, too, very pretty. You picked up on the Fair Isle knitting so quickly, your progress is amazing.

I just bought a Telemark colour card from KnitPicks … I think it would be helpful in choosing colours for fair isle projects.

Hi, Opal
I know what you mean about 16″ circs - have you considered using 2 24″ circs? I do that all the time and it really makes it easier on your hands.
Cool hat, BTW. :)

[...] So, you win some you lose some. On the whole I think these socks are winners. Now I’m off to wrestle with a hat. It’s got some issues and I’m not happy with it at all and it’s got a big ‘L’ written all over it. [...]
