The Alien Illusion Scarf and Sweater Anxiety

Posted under meanderings & scarves

Last night, in an effort to combat post-project depression, I started the Alien Illusion Scarf from the book Stitch’n'Bitch. I’m using the yarn Swish Superwash from Knit Picks in Dublin and Black on size 7US/4.5mm needles.

This is a fantastic yarn. It’s so soft it’s like knitting butter. Buttah baby! I find it amazing that this is a woolen yarn, because it feels like it’s blended with something like viscose. I’m so glad that I decided to try this yarn out and that I’m using it for 2 of my Christmas gifts. I might even get some more for another gift, if I find that I have enough time to whip out another scarf.

I even imagine a lovely cardigan for myself in this lovely yarn. Finding a pattern that I like for a cardigan is a completely different animal though. I’m really picky when it comes to sweater patterns, but it might be more because of the fact that I suffer from a tragic disorder called Sweater Anxiety. (Cue violin music.)
It doesn’t matter how much knitting experience I have, I just freeze up when it comes to the shaping of a garment for a human torso. I am working on a tank top for my mother and I’m hoping that I’ll be able to finish it in time for Christmas. I’m not sure what it will take to get through the shaping, but I know I want to get it Done.

As for the Alien Illusions Scarf, I was able to show it off to some of the ladies at the local cross-stitch shop and even though it was only “knitting” they still found the scarf “very cool“. I hope the 9-year-old recipient finds it just as cool.

The scarf is very cool! Thanks for the review on the yarn - I haven’t tried it yet, but wanted to. I hope you get over your sweater anxiety disorder (SAD?) and find a great pattern for yourself.

I, too, love this yarn, Opal. Currently using it for the Red Scarf Project, Cable Embrace Scarf. I intend to use it for many more projects. Love the Alien Scarf.

That scarf is so cool! I may have to try Swish for The Teens cardigan instead of the Andean Silk. I’ll save for a project for me.

Looks cool and a bit scary. Illusionkintting is funny, but a bit boring too, he he,

I too suffer from sweater anxiety. I am lazy when it comes to swatching and planning. I also hate the finishing. I will have all sorts of money tied up in pieces that never are joined, sometimes out of fear of disappointment. Socks are so much less threatening.
