Braided Cable Socks: Take 2

I’m not sure how well you can see the cables in this picture, but I’m much happier with these cables then with the cables I had produced yesterday. I took Lemma’s suggestion and omitted a couple of plain rows between the cables and presto! I have fluffier cables!

Due to the nature of socks and how they stretch out on the leg, I doubt that anyone will notice the difference in the cables but myself. These socks were bothering me so much I felt I really had to work on editing them. Sometimes the perfectionist in me just comes screaming out to play!

I really appreciate all the comments on how they looked to you all. They made me feel much better about my knitting skills. Thank you all!

Peggy asked me about my stitch markers. (Peggy, I tried to email you but the email kept bouncing.)

I admire your stitch markers. How much weight do they add to a project? I have thought about investing but I wondered if they get tangled in the knitting or if they are at all heavy?

I made these stitch markers myself from size 3mm and 1mm beads. They’re very tiny, so they don’t tangle much in my knitting at all, nor do they add much weight to my knitting. I also use sterling silver headpins, because of the heavy handling that stitch markers get, plated metals tend to have their finish rub off rapidly.

I have tried stitch markers with bigger beads and they have gotten too heavy for my knitting. So my advice is to definitely look for smaller beads and to look for sterling silver or gold filled metal rather then plated metals. I hope this was helpful!

Your cables look MUCH better! I also made some stitch markers but I really prefer just cheap plastic hair ties out of plastic.

I admire your work. I really wish I was able to knit. I think I could do tuff with those cool beads.

The socks are beautiful - isn’t it funny how sometimes you just have to start over when it looks wrong to you and no one else? Love the stitch markers - I use plain plastic ones, but you make me want to go buy some beaded ones!

Not sure what was up with the email. Thanks so much for the description of your markers. I will have to try to make some when I get home from Dallas.

What pretty cables, you must be so pleased! I do think I saw a pattern for the first ones you made in my Harmony book of stitches, it looks familiar to me. Thank you for the instructions on making beaded marker, they are very helpful for me to finally make my own.

Opal, I really love the stitch markers! I was admiring the cables, too - and those stitch markers took my breath away. They would be perfect for lace. You’re always amazing me!
